Are you passionate about mental health and eager to make a meaningful impact in your community? VNACJ Community Health Center is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Health Assistant to join our Mental Health Department at our Keyport location.  The Behaivoral Health Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative and clinical support for the Mental Health Department as part of Community Health Center Clinical Care Team.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

As a Behavioral Health Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting both the clinical and administrative functions of our Mental Health Department. You’ll work closely with our Psych APNs (Advanced Practice Nurses) to ensure smooth patient care, assist in navigating the healthcare system, and create positive experiences for every patient.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Patient Care Support: Assist providers in managing patient workflows, ensuring patient charts are accurate, and supporting patient care activities (like taking vital signs and performing point-of-care testing).
  • Administrative Excellence: Handle scheduling, referrals, medication management, and follow-up appointments, ensuring everything runs smoothly for our team and patients.
  • Clinical Assistance: Monitor patients’ clinical conditions, help relay concerns to Psych APNs, and support in executing orders and procedures as directed.
  • Patient Education: Reinforce key patient education and provide assistance navigating complex healthcare systems, ensuring patients achieve the best health outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the entire clinical care team to maintain high standards of care and foster positive, team-based relationships.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited practical nursing certificate program is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Experience in crisis management and knowledge of referral processes is a plus. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential for success in this role.
  • Certifications: CPR certification required or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days. Additional skills like phlebotomy, EKG, and administering injectable depot medications are a bonus!
  • Experience: A background in healthcare and working with patients is a plus, but we’re willing to provide on-the-job training.
  • Additional Requirements: A valid New Jersey driver’s license and the ability to work effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Why VNACJ?

  • A rewarding career with opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others
  • A collaborative, team-focused environment
  • Competitive benefits and opportunities for development

If you’re ready to join a team that truly cares about the people they serve, we’d love to hear from you!
